Brief History

Before 1971
Part of the Division of Albay

The schools within what is now Legazpi City were administered under the Department of Education, Division of Albay, serving the broader Albay province without a dedicated city-level division.

April 5, 1971
Formal Establishment

RA 2234 The Department of Education, Division of Legazpi City was formally established, giving Legazpi City its own educational governance body enabling focused and responsive oversight of local schools.

Amendment
Mandate Solidified

RA 5525 A subsequent amendment further refined the establishment of the division, solidifying its mandate and authority over all public schools in Legazpi City.
